BUFFALO NICKEL GALLERY & STRAHAN RESIDENCE - CIMARRON, NEW MEXICO
The Buffalo Nickel Gallery is a complete restoration of the old Brooks mercantile building in downtown Cimarron, NM after a tornado struck the building and destroyed a portion of the back parapet wall. The front 2500 s.f. became an art gallery and the back 3300 s.f. serves as an art studio. A new home and studio addition, currently under construction, includes insulated concrete form wall and deck systems, spray-foam insulation, a working greenhouse with water recapture cistern system, and a green roof. The green roof helps cool the building, increase the roof life span, reduces storm-water runoff and filter pollutants from rainwater. Corten steel walls give further visual appeal to the green roof and shields mechanical systems from view..
